After an underwhelming yet hopeful performance in the Paris Olympics 2024, India wants to leave its shadow on the world. And even PM Modi is hellbent and wants that no matter what.
During the Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed all the athletes. He congratulated everyone who represented India in the Summer Games of 2024 and laid out plans for the future.
He highlighted the fact that India can host a world event like the G20 summit and has the infrastructure to do that. The Indian Prime Minister further stated that the next dream for India is to host the Olympics in 2036.
PM Modi Hopeful
The Indian Prime Minister stated, “Today, we also have with us the youth who made the Indian flag fly high in the Olympics. On behalf of 140 crore countrymen, I congratulate all our athletes and players. In the next few days, a huge contingent of India will leave for Paris to participate in the Paralympics.
I extend best wishes to all our Paralympians. India organizing the G20 Summit on a large scale has proven that India can organize large-scale events…It is the dream of India to host the 2036 Olympics, we are making preparations for that.”
India is sending its largest contingent of 84 athletes to the Paralympics. They would like to continue the momentum of Tokyo where they won 19 medals and in the Para-Asian Games where they recorded historic 111 medals.
Hosting Rights
The hosting rights for the Olympic Games are done by the IOC after a detailed selection process. Earlier, Neeta Ambani also stated the desire to host the 2036 Olympic Games in the country.
IOC has a dedicated body Future Host Commission(FHC) that decides the next host for the Summer Games. A bill has been passed in Lok Sabha which has confirmed India’s bid for hosting rights of the 2036 Olympic Games.
