IND vs WI: During the second Twenty20 International against India in Guyana, West Indies wicketkeeper Nicholas Pooran violated Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct and has been now penalised with a fine equal to 15% of his match fee. Pooran was judged to have violated the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel’s Article 2.7, which addresses public criticism of an incident during an international match.
Nicholas Pooran accepts the offence
There was no need for a formal inquiry since Pooran acknowledged the offence and accepted the suggested the punishment of a warning from match referee Richie Richardson. Additionally, Pooran’s disciplinary record has been updated with one demerit point for what was his first breach in 24 months.
The incident happened after an LBW verdict was overturned in the fourth over of India’s innings. Pooran criticised the umpires for having to use up a player review for a judgement that, in his opinion, was obviously incorrect. Leslie Reifer and Nigel Duguid, third umpire Gregory Brathwaite, and fourth official Patrick Gustard were the on-field umpires who made the charges. Level 1 violations are subject to one or two demerit points, an official reprimand, and a maximum fine of 50% of the player’s match fee.
