With the appointment of Gautam Gambhir getting closer, the Indian team is getting closer to ushering in a new era. Gambhir and BCCI were set to meet on a Zoom call on Tuesday to interview for the job.
But it looks like the plan changed as the KKR mentor traveled to Mumbai around noon to give that interview physically. The meeting/interview will run till 4 pm and we might get an announcement by the end of the day.
It is an exciting time to be an ICT fan as Gambhir has several plans for the squad. Not only does he want a separate coaching staff, but it looks like there are other demands as well that BCCI has accepted.
If the Indian Cricket Board seriously adheres to these demands, we might see a tectonic shake in the Indian dressing room. With various senior players’ positions coming in jeopardy.
Gautam Gambhir Demands Full Control
According to various reports, Gambhir has put up various demands in front of BCCI that the board has already accepted. The no-nonsense behavior of Gambhir will work for the Indian team as well as he demanded full control of the team.
Not only that, he also demanded that the BCCI look into separate teams for white-ball and red-ball cricket. This means that there will be a huge reshuffling in the squads and many players will lose their place in the squads.

According to IANS, a source close to BCCI stated “The new head coach of the men’s cricket team will soon be revealed. The meeting is scheduled between 2-4 pm.”
He further stated that “Gauti (Gautam Gambhir) will be traveling today to Mumbai around noon for the interview at BCCI Headquarters. It is almost confirmed that he is going to be the next head coach as the BCCI has agreed to the terms he presented for the head coach.”
Gambhir will take over the coaching position after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He will be in charge of the team till December 31, 2027, with an option to extend.
