Will Gautam Gambhir Take Over As India’s Next Head Coach? Check Out

It looks like BCCI has zeroed in on Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of Indian cricket team with major changes ahead.

Gautam Gambhir

After months of stalemate, BCCI has finally announced Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of ICT and marked the start of a new era.

It looks like Gautam Gambhir and the BCCI saga will finally come to an end with the former Indian cricketer signing the deal as the new Indian Head Coach, replacing Rahul Dravid at the end of his tenure.

Gambhir has been a hot property for BCCI since his success in IPL 2024. He led his side KKR to the title of their mentor and showed impressive leadership qualities. He was the frontrunner for the Head Coach position for which almost 3,000 applicants applied.

The ideology of BCCI and Gambhir also aligned with both parties wanting to do something for the nation. So, everything indicated that the arrival of Gambhir was imminent. The only thing that remained was the official confirmation. It looks like, we will get that as well very soon.

Gautam Gambhir The Next Head Coach?

According to Media Reports, Gambhir is set to take over the Indian dressing room post-Rahul Dravid. Dravid will lead the Indian side for the final time in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Media reports have suggested that BCCI has finalized Gambhir as their final option. The reports also suggested that the official announcement would be made by the end of this week.

Further reports clarified that there will be a major change in the coaching staff of the Indian team. Gautam Gambhir will select his support staff, which includes batting, bowling, and a new fielding coach.

No More KKR?

Gambhir was picked after considering lots of names. Before Gambhir, BCCI was keen on a foreign coach to lead the Indian team. They reached out to Ricky Ponting, Justin Langer, Andy Flower, and Kumar Sangakkara for the role.

But in the end, they zeroed in on the KKR’s mentor. If Gambhir takes the Indian coaching position, he has to let go of the KKR job. It will be a three-year stint for Gambhir as ICT head coach.
