Wimbledon 2023: In the post-match interview after the Wimbledon 2023 finals, Djokovic was all praise for his opponent. And why wouldn’t he? After he Alcaraz was responsible for Serbian second loss on the Wimbledon court.
Yes, Djokovic has only suffered two Wimbledon losses in his career. And when the 20-year-old defeated him last night, it was nothing like before. It was the first time we have seen Djokovic this rattled on the field.
And he was shocked because of how quickly Carlos has adapted to play on all three surfaces. The match was beautiful and felt like a torch-passing moment at the end. We will see what the future holds but for now, World No.2 was in all praise for the champion.
He Got The Best Of All Three Worlds
Djokovic stated that he did not expect Alcaraz to play this well on the grass. According to the Serbian, the champion has proved why he is the best in the world.
“I haven’t played a player like him ever, to be honest. I think people have been talking in the past 12 months or so about his game consisting of certain elements from Roger, Rafa, and myself. I would agree with that.”
He further stated that his fighting spirit and incredible defense are just like Nadal’s and proclaimed the Spanish as a complete player.
Few Regrets
Djokovic stated that even though the crowd was behind Alcaraz and that irritated him because of that, he still has some regrets about his game.
“In the tiebreak in the second, the backhands kind of let me down,” he said. “Set point, I missed the backhand. A little bit of a bad bounce, but I should not have missed that shot.
