Women’s Asia Cup 2022 Final: It appears as if team Sri Lanka’s strategy before the toss did not work out at all. After opting to bat first, they were redued to meagre 65/9 by Team India. Creating history, India won the Asia Cup title for the seventh time as they chased down the target within 8.3 overs with Smriti Mandhana’s striking fifty from just 25 balls. This was also their fifth meeting with Sri lanka in final match. Prior to today, they have faced each other for 4 times in the decade of 2000s when Asia cup used to have 50-50 overs.
Sri Lanka crumbled just at the start of their innings as they lost four wickets at nine runs itself. By that time, four overs had already passed, which explains the low-score total. Sri Lanka lost their opener in run out, after which Renuka Singh’s three-wicket over did the job for India.
Top-scorer for Sri Lanka W was Inoka Ranaweera who managed to score 18 off 22 balls. Following her was, Oshadi Ranasinghe who scored 13 off 20 balls. No other batter could reach double-digit figure.
For India, their star bowler was Renuka Singh, as she managed to take 3 wickets in her spell of three overs while shelling just 5 runs. Following her was, Deepti Sharma who went wicketless gave just 7 runs in four overs. rajeshwari Gayakwad and Sneh Rana took two wickets each in their four over spell.
Chasing such a total was a minor thing for India, as they did so in 8.3 overs. India’s top run-scorer was Smriti Mandhana, who scored 51 off 25 balls while hammering 3 sixes and 6 fours. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur scored 11 off 14 balls. However, Shafali and Rodrigues couldn’t do much as they were dismissed for a score of 5 and 2, respectively.
Today’s final match was played at Sylhet Cricket Stadium, Bangladesh which resulted in their fifth final overall and the winner was no different.
