ICC T20 World Cup 2024: The Indian team is ready to embark on a new phase of the tournament. After playing the entirety of the group stage in the USA, the Men In Blues have reached the Carribean for the Super 8 round.
As skipper, Rohit Sharma stated that the team is confident ahead of the Super 8. And why shouldn’t the team be confident? After all, they have the Number 1 T20I batsman in their arsenal.
Surya Kumar Yadav has been at the top of the ICC rankings for two years now. He opened up about the Super 8 fixture and his fiery attitude was visible. His confidence in the shortest format of the game is something else entirely.
‘We Had To Adpat’
Sky boasts a career strike rate of 168 in T20Is. But in the USA, he had to suppress his natural game and play according to the pitch. He stated that it was hard to bat on the pitch but if you are number 1, you have to adapt.
“If you have been number one for two years, you should be able to bat in different conditions and change the game as per the team’s needs. That displays good batsmanship, and that is what I try.
It’s difficult to generate that force when there’s no pace on the wicket and when someone has read your game nicely. So, at that time, you have to be very smart about how you want to extend your innings.”
ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Won’t Change Our Approach
Sky was delighted that the tournament had now shifted to West Indies and he could play his 360-degree shots once again. He stated that the USA pitches were fiery and the conditions were challenging.
He further stated that the pitches in the West Indies are far better and more suited to his playstyle than off the USA. Sky is looking forward to getting back into his aggressive groove.
On being asked whether he will change his approach if the wickets are down early? Surya stated that he won’t change his approach no matter what. “If there are early wickets, you still have to put runs on the board and bat with that same intent. That is what we try and tell each other to take the positive route.”
