World Cup 2023: With less than 100 days left for World Cup 2023, ICC has set strict guidelines for every team regarding squad submission. As per ICC, every team must submit their squad at least 5 weeks prior to the tournament.
The deadline gives all the squads enough time to prepare but will also give other teams enough time to prepare once the squads are out. With only two months left for squad submission, every team will choose the players as per the tournament only.
Importance Of Squad Submission For World Cup 2023
The preliminary squad submission is a very important factor in World Cup. The preliminary squad that a team will submit will showcase its strategy and mindset going into the world cup.
“The initial squad submission deadlines at our tournaments are 30 days before the support periods start. The support periods start one week before the tournaments. Changes may be made before the support period without seeking permission, but once the support period kicks in, the Event Technical Committee needs to approve replacements.” ICC stated.
It means that changes can be made to the squad till September 29. After that, any emergency change will be approved by ICC beforehand. This is done to maintain the fairness and integrity of the game.
Problems For India?
This can be a problem for the Indian cricket team as BCCI has still not appointed the Indian team chief selector. The position has been empty since Chetan Sharma’s departure after his being involved in information exchange scandal.
BCCI has been on the lookout for a new chief selector for a while now. It looks like they have to hurry now, as less than 60 days are left for squad submission. The new chief selector also has to work as soon as he is hired to make a strong team that can challenge the title.
