World Cup 2023: The injury debacle is not leaving the Indian team anytime soon. Just when we thought everything was going smoothly, we just got another bad news that will break the hearts of many Indian cricket team fans.
KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have been out of action for a long time. Both of them recently posted a video of them working out, which made the fans hopeful. Hopeful that both of them will return by the time of World Cup 2023.
But things are looking grim as a source from BCCI told PTI that the chance of return of these two for the World Cup is very slim. The Indian cricket board has not specified the time of the return of these two so far.
Iyer To Miss The World Cup?
The source stated that it would be very unlikely that Shreyas Iyer will be completely fit for the 50-over format before the World Cup. Even though he has started practicing in nets, he is ruled out of Asia Cup 2023.
“In the case of Iyer, he has also started skills training, but the World Cup for him will be touch and go if Indian management thinks of putting a 100 percent fit Iyer back in the park. T20 is an easier vehicle for a comeback, unlike 50-over cricket. We are keeping our fingers crossed.” the source stated.
Slim Chance For KL Rahul For World Cup 2023
The source also added that there might be a slim chance for KL Rahul to be completely fit. The wicket-keeper is also ruled out of Asia Cup 2023 but has started net practice.
Both these batsmen will have a low chance of getting fit. KL Rahul will be available for the Australia series right before the World Cup. And he can get his fitness back in that series. So, his hopes of playing in the tournament are still alive.
