World Cup 2023: India Vs Pakistan
Upon asking who are his favorite picks to qualify for Semi-finals, Ganguly was quick to reply. He picked defending champion England, six times world champion Australia, and the host India as his three favorites.
He also stated that no one can underestimate New Zealand in these tournaments. The Black Caps have always made it to major ICC Knockouts and even defeated India in World Test Championship 2021 finals and World Cup 2019 finals.
The former Indian captain picked Pakistan as his fifth favorite. He stated that Pakistan must qualify so we can see India vs Pakistan in the semi-finals in Eden Gardens. Even though India will face Pakistan in the group stage, Ganguly was hopeful they will meet again in the knockouts.
“We Don’t Perform Well Sometimes”
Ganguly further stated that India sometimes doesn’t perform well in crucial stages of the tournament. But also stated that reaching those crucial stages is also an achievement. Referring to India’s participation in WTC 2023 final.
When asked if the problem with players is mentality, Ganguly simply denied it. He stated that every player is mentally strong and knows how to perform. He was hopeful that we will do it this time.
“Pressure is not a problem. I am sure they will find a way to succeed. During Rahul Dravid’s playing days, there was pressure to perform, and now that he is the head coach, there is pressure on him to deliver. That will not go away, and I don’t think pressure is an issue.” Ganguly further stated.
