WPL 2023: Ellyse Perry, the all-rounder from Australia, has described the “twist of fate” that led her to become a member of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s inaugural team in the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL). Perry, who had set a base price of INR 50 lakh, was acquired by the Bangalore-based franchise for INR 1.7 crore during the WPL auction held on February 13 in Mumbai.

The 32-year-old player also shared that she had attended RCB’s first-ever IPL match at the stadium back in 2008. In a RCB video, Perry said, “A big hello and a big thank you for the opportunity to play with RCB in the first ever WPL, I’m so excited for this tournament and everything it means for the women’s game.”
Continuing further, she said, “It is kind of really cool because the twist of fate was that I was actually at the first-ever ECB game for men many years ago. Since then, RCB has always had a bit of a soft spot in my heart. I suppose it was this twist of fate and now being part of the first-ever women’s team is super cool. “(I’m) looking forward to meeting everyone who is part of the team and also the huge fanbase that the club has. It’s amazing to think it is all coming reality. So, look forward to see you all in March.”

WPL action begins on 5th March?
The Women’s Premier League (WPL) is scheduled to take place in Mumbai, exclusively at two stadiums – D.Y. Patil and Brabourne. The inaugural match for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will be against Delhi Capitals on March 5.
RCB’s roster boasts a collection of star players, including India’s opener Smriti Mandhana, England’s captain Heather Knight, and New Zealand’s captain Sophie Devine. Mandhana’s signing by RCB for INR 3.4 crore during the WPL auction held on February 13 made her the most expensive player at the event.
