The BCCI has made full preparations to make the Women’s Premier League a big bang. After buying veteran players in the auction, now the title sponsor and other things are being finalized. The title sponsor of the Women’s Premier League has been announced by the BCCI. Board Secretary Jai Shah announced this on Twitter. The Women’s Premier League is to begin on March 4. The final match will be held on March 26.
Tata has been made the title sponsor for the first season. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said, “I am delighted to announce that the Tata Group will be the title sponsor for the first season of the Women’s Premier League.”
Shah further said that we are confident that with their support, we will take women’s cricket to the next level. Significantly, Tata Group is already in the role of title sponsor in the men’s IPL.
It is noteworthy that there are matches between five teams in the Women’s Premier League. Recently the auction process has been completed. There were bids for a total of 87 women cricketers. The biggest bid was for Indian player Smriti Mandhana. He has been bought by RCB for an amount of Rs 3 crore 40 lakh. Mandhana has also been given the command of the team.
Women’s Premier League matches will be held at Brabourne Stadium
Women’s Premier League matches will be held at Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. A total of 22 matches will be played in the tournament. Indian team captain Harmanpreet Kaur has been included in the Mumbai Indians squad. He has been made the captain there.
Significantly, the wait for the Women’s Premier League in India was many years. Before this, there is a league in the women’s category in the Big Bash League in Australia and The Hundred in England. Although the Indian league is expected to be better than them in every respect. Like IPL, this league can also become a brand very soon.
