WPL 2023: Smriti Mandhana, an Indian cricketer, made history in February 2023 by becoming the first player to be sold at the Women’s Premier League auction. She was also the most expensive player at the event, with Royal Challengers Bangalore purchasing her for INR 3.4 crore. However, she failed to live up to her name and tag, as she could not score even a single fifty.

Smriti Mandhana’s performance in WPL 2023
During her last innings in the Women’s Premier League 2023 on March 21 against Mumbai Indians, Smriti Mandhana was dismissed for 24 off 25 balls when she fell prey to a spinner yet again. Throughout the tournament, she was dismissed eight times, with seven of them being against spinners. This was because she was caught inside the circle while trying to accelerate her innings.
During the tournament, Mandhana didn’t live up to her “most expensive player” title as she didn’t manage to score a single half-century in eight matches. She only scored 149 runs in eight innings, averaging 18.62 and with a strike rate of 111.19, and even recorded one duck.
RCB out of WPL 2023
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had a tough start to the Women’s Premier League, losing their first five matches. However, they finally managed to turn things around and won two consecutive matches against UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants. RCB’s chances of advancing to the knockout stage relied on UP losing their last two fixtures. Unfortunately, their hopes were dashed when Alyssa Healy-led team defeated Gujarat Giants on March 20, securing a place in the eliminator game of the tournament.
