Wrestlers Protest: Bhupender Singh Bajwa, the committee’s chairperson, announced on Wednesday that the elections for the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) have been delayed by five days. Originally slated on July 6, the elections will now take place on July 11.
WFI Elections Delayed for Fairness Evaluation
The choice was made after “a variety of issues” were brought up by at least 10 state units before the ad hoc panel on Wednesday, which was the deadline for state organisations to submit their nominees for the electoral college’s composition. Additionally, the deadline for sending in entries for the electoral college has been moved from June 21 to June 25 at midnight. “We got complaints about a range of issues from at least 10 state agencies. Most concerns were on affiliation; some organisations claimed to be the ones acknowledged by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), while others claimed to have been marginalised. We required extra time to consider and deliberate on their claims. The polls must be totally fair in order to avoid UWW criticism,” according to Bajwa. The ad hoc tribunal also received complaints from Bihar, Tripura, Odisha, Meghalaya, and Assam in addition to the five disaffiliated states of Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Telangana, and Rajasthan. The IOA requested the Returning Officer Justice Mahesh Mittal Kumar to speak with the unhappy units on Wednesday after receiving complaints from the aggrieved state bodies.

Disaffiliated Units Meet to Address Concerns and Discuss Elections
The disaffiliated units’ meeting started at 3 PM and lasted for almost three hours in the IOA office. “We had a successful meeting. Justice Kumar forced the angry factions to gather and carefully listened to both views. The ad hoc group then met for a further three hours to talk about the polls, according to Bajwa. It was a successful meeting. A spokesperson from one of the unaffiliated units said, “We are happy with it. “Patience was used to hear both sides. About 30 minutes were allotted to each unit to make their case. Additionally, some documents were requested from us, and we were informed that the outcome would be shared with us in a day or two. Additionally, from June 22 to June 28, the time for assembling and displaying the electoral college has been shifted. On Wednesday, the ad hoc panel was also expected to make a decision regarding the Asian Games trials, but the topic could not be discussed because the most of the time was spent talking about elections. “Due to a shortage of time, the subject of choosing the Asiad trials could not be discussed. However, it appears that the present committee will have to conduct the trials given that the elections have been delayed. At the earliest, the new WFI administration will assume over on July 12, and they plan to give wrestlers 7–10 days before publicising the trials. But the deadline for sending squads is July 15. After the elections, the committee will probably linger for a few extra days before departing after the trials, according to someone with knowledge of the situation.
