Alyssa Healy talked about the upcoming T20i World Cup in Bangladesh and how it would be wrong. Considering the current situation in Bangladesh, there was already a big question mark over the venue.
Bangladesh has been in a state of chaos in the last few months. The government being overthrown, with daily cases of violence, and no resources, the nation is almost on its last leg.
Amidst the unrest, ICC has been discussing the backup options to shift the World Cup out of Bangladesh. But so far, no nation has come forward to take the responsibility. So UAE looks like the last option.
Alyssa Healy Skeptical
Australian skipper expressed her thoughts on the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 and how it would be wrong to host it in Bangladesh. She even finds it hard to fathom that it is being considered.
She stated “I’d find it hard to fathom playing there at the moment, as a human being, I feel like it might be the wrong thing to do. Taking resources away from a country that is struggling. They need everyone they can get in there to help people that are dying.
There are obviously bigger factors at play than putting a cricket tournament on in Bangladesh at the moment… but I’ll leave it to the ICC to work out.”
Situation Being Monitored
Amidst the chaos, ICC also released a statement stating that they are monitoring the situation in Bangladesh. The statement read:
“The ICC is closely monitoring developments in coordination with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), their security agencies, and our own independent security consultants. Our priority is the safety and well-being of all participants.”
