WTC 2023: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has finally announced that the final of the 2nd ICC World Test Championship will be held at The Oval in England from June 7th to 11th, 2023. The World Test Championship is the most prestigious event in the Test cricket calendar, marking the end of a two-year competition of 61 Test matches and 24 series.
Who can be the WTC 2023 finalists?
While the participating nations have yet to be determined, several critical fixtures will be played in the upcoming weeks to determine the finalists. The excitement is mounting as the grand showdown draws near.
Australia is currently leading the standings, with India standing on the second spot. The two teams will face off in a four-Test series starting on February 9th, both striving to secure a spot at The Oval and win the ICC World Test Championship Mace.
For India to have a chance of qualifying for the final, they need to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which consists of four Tests. Six teams have the opportunity to qualify, with Sri Lanka in third place and South Africa in fourth place being among the frontrunners to challenge the top two teams. Sri Lanka will take on New Zealand, while South Africa will play against the West Indies in two-Test series during February and March.
What did Rohit Sharma say on WTC 2023?
India skipper Rohit Sharma said, “Leading Team India out onto the field of play at the World Test Championship Final would be special. We have grown and developed as a team during this competition and to be in with a chance of lifting the Mace at the Oval in June, we know we first need to overcome a tough Australia side.”
