Yash Chawde: With a remarkable innings of 508 not out in 178 balls, a 13-year-old aspiring Maharashtra cricketer has shattered a big national record. In addition, he became the tenth batter in cricket history to hit 500 runs or more.

Chawde, who was playing for Saraswati Vidyalaya in the Mumbai Indians’ Junior Inter-School (Under-14) cricket cup on Friday, broke the limited-overs format inter-school cricket competition record in India. Chawde scored an unbroken 508 versus Siddheshwar Vidyalaya at the Jhulelal Institute of Technology in Nagpur, including 81 fours and 18 maximums.

Yash Chwade joins an elite list

Chawde is one of four Indian batters on this list. He is now a part of an elite list that features Pranav Dhanawade (1009 not out), Priyanshu Moliya (556 not out), Prithvi Shaw (546) and Dady Havewala (515).

Chawde also set a new record for the biggest partnership, scoring 714 runs in 40 overs with fellow batsman Tilak Wakode (127 from 97 balls). According to a notable statistician, Chawde is just the second player to achieve 500 runs in limited overs cricket, the first being Sri Lankan hitter Chirath Selleperuma, who made 553 runs in an Under-15 inter-school event in August 2022.

Yash has scored over 1000 runs in the tournament

This season, 13-year-old Yash Chawde has been a breakout sensation in the U-16 VCA competition, scoring 1000 runs and two centuries. Chawde, the son of a mid-day meal contractor, was encouraged to play cricket by his father.

According to his supervisor in the school, the young cricketer has the potential to excel in the game. He is known to be focused and to have an excellent cricketing intellect. Kulkarni described Chawde as a ‘lambi race ka ghoda,’ praising his body language. Chawde’s first love is not cricket. He enjoys skating and has competed in state and national events.
