It was Zimbabwe’s maiden ODI victory against Australia in Australia, and only their third win in the 50-over format versus their formidable opponent. Ryan Burl (5 for 10) and Regis Chakabva (37* off 72 balls) were the architects of the victory, as Zimbabwe pulled one back after losing the first two games.
Speaking after the game Burl said that they would be looking forward to coming back to Australia for the T20 World Cup and there could not have been any better preparation that beating Australia.
“Massively important going out to bat there, I got 10 of the 20 runs and tried to do my job. We’ll take the confidence from the win, we come back here for the T20 World Cup, no better preparation than beating Australia,” Burl said in the post match interaction after the match.
