In 2022, the Andhra Pradesh task force detained 73 smugglers and recovered 50 metric tonnes of red sandalwood logs worth Rs 50 crore. According to reports, the combing operations took place all year round in the Sheshachalam forest, which is located in the Andhra Pradesh districts of Chittoor and Kadapa.

According to reports, the red sanders who were detained have been missing since 2016. Over the years, the Red Sanders Anti-Smuggling Task Force conducted approximately 1,400 operations and detained important traffickers. In total, 281 woodcutters, masons, and smugglers were apprehended by RSASTF police, with 180 cases in 2021 and 106 cases in 2022. 50 vehicles were seized, and 197 of the 281 people detained were from Andhra Pradesh, 70 from Tamil Nadu, and five from Karnataka.

RSASTF Superintendent of Police K Chakravarthi stated that Andhra Police is driving the smugglers of red sanders out of the woods and about 20 pending non-bailable warrants were carried out against the Tamil Nadu traffickers.
He further added there will be strict measures to track down the smugglers and the use of CCTV cameras on Isat phones will rise in Red Sanders core sections with weak entry and exit points. Also stated that in order to find the smugglers, sniffer dog unit will be shortly activated and dog squad services were discontinued as a result of Covid-19. RSTASF is also attempting to get the traffickers convicted in smuggling and seizure cases by two recently established courts.
Earlier in October, the Chittoor police arrested eight smugglers after seizing 122 red sandalwood logs valued Rs 1.2 crore. Along with the 2 tonnes of logs, the police also impounded a truck made by Eicher, two vehicles, and a two-wheeler valued at Rs 30 lakhs.
