Delhi News: The Delhi Police is taking proactive measures to ensure the security of the central areas of the city, notably around ITO, as both the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gear up for demonstrations in the national capital.
AAP and BJP Protests
The AAP has announced a protest outside the BJP headquarters, citing alleged malpractice in the Chandigarh mayoral election. Conversely, the BJP intends to hold a demonstration near the AAP office, alleging corruption within the Arvind Kejriwal-led government.
Participation of Leaders
Notably, Arvind Kejriwal, along with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is expected to participate in the AAP’s protest.
ED Summons and Police Response
Coinciding with these demonstrations is the Enforcement Directorate’s summons to Kejriwal, the national convenor of AAP, regarding a money laundering investigation related to purported irregularities in the Delhi excise police 2021-22.
Despite the planned protests, the Delhi Police has not granted permission for any political demonstrations in the capital.
Security Measures
The Delhi Police is set to divert traffic from Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg to alternative routes on the day of the protests. Additionally, approximately 1000 Delhi Police personnel and paramilitary forces will be deployed to manage the situation. The Delhi BJP’s planned protest outside the AAP headquarters has also been denied permission.
Ensuring Law and Order
A police official affirmed that stringent security arrangements would be in place to uphold law and order during the protests. Additional forces will be deployed to prevent any disruption.
