After six hours of hard questioning at his Okhla residence in New Delhi, Amanatullah Khan, the MLA for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), in a dramatic turn of events. The arrest is a component of the continuing inquiry into allegations of money laundering connected to the Delhi Waqf Board.
AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan Detained by ED Officials
After announcing on social media earlier in the day that the ED was at his residence, Amanatullah Khan has now been placed under arrest. After hours of questioning, the arrest was made by the ED officers who had arrived early in the morning with a search warrant in hand. As part of the investigation, Khan’s home was extensively examined.
AAP Leaders Condemn the ED’s Actions
Earlier, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh also voiced his support for Amanatullah Khan, condemning the ED’s actions as baseless and politically motivated. He highlighted that Khan had cooperated with the investigation but was still targeted.
Legal Background and Allegations
Alleged irregularities that occurred while Khan was the head of the Delhi Waqf Board are the focus of the ED’s inquiry. The agency has charged him with improperly appointing thirty-two contractual employees and unlawfully leasing properties valued at Rs 100 crore.
Khan was accused of not attending an ED summons, and the Rouse Avenue Court granted him bail earlier this year. Khan has consistently argued that the accusations made against him are false and inaccurate.
