AAP: “If Congress says they will not fight elections in Delhi-Punjab, then we will also say we will not fight elections in MP-Rajasthan”, Aam Aadmi Party’s national spokesperson and Delhi cabinet minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said at a press conference. The leader further claimed that the country will turn into monarchy, if Narendra Modi is re-elected as the Prime Minister in 2024 Lok Sabha polls. This offer comes at a time when AAP is looking for Congress’s support against the Centre’s ordinance over control of administrative services in Delhi.
Creating an opposition consensus
Other than the offer, Bhardwaj also hit out at Congress for its leadership crisis and copying ideas from Arvind Kejriwal. “The oldest party of the country, the Indian National Congress, not only has a crisis of leaders but a crisis of ideas too. After mocking Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP for their welfare schemes related to water and electricity, and free bus rides for women, it is now copying our ideas” said Bhardwaj. The offer for reciprocal alliance is based out of Congress’s performance in last 2 Assembly elections of Delhi, as Bhardwaj himself said “”Congress party got zero seats in the 2015 and 2020 assembly elections in Delhi. If Congress says they will not fight elections in Delhi-Punjab, then we will also say we will not fight elections in MP-Rajasthan.”
It’s all about countering BJP
Taking a jibe at PM Narendra Modi, Bhardwaj said “There is a possibility that he (Modi) may change the Constitution and declare himself as the country’s king for as long as he is alive,”. Bhardwaj expressed deep angst against CBI, ED and IT departments putting opposition leaders behind bars. AAP is in a tussle against central government over the issue of ordinance over control of administrative services in Delhi. The congress leadership made consensus of not speaking on the issue. Bhardwaj also alleged that Central government wants to stall work of the elected representatives in the National Capital.
