In recent times, India has witnessed a surge of outrage over heinous acts of sexual violence, with the Kolkata rape case and the Badlapur sexual assault drawing national attention. Now in Akola, Maharashtra,a government school teacher has been arrested for molesting six Class 8 girls is a disturbing occurrence. It is alleged that over a four-month period, the accused, 47-year-old Pramod Manohar Sardar, harassed the students sexually by showing them explicit videos.
Incident Details
When the girls told their parents about the teacher’s inappropriate behaviour, the alarming claims were revealed. One of the students called the Child Welfare Committee’s helpline after filing complaints, which prompted an inquiry. When the group went to Zila Parishad School in Kajikhed, they conducted individual conversations with the impacted girls. The students disclosed the trauma they had been going through during these conversations.
Immediate Action Taken
Upon receiving the complaint, the Ural police acted swiftly. They arrested Pramod Sardar and registered a First Information Report (FIR) against him under sections 74 and 75 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act. Police Inspector Gopal Dhole confirmed that statements from the victims had been recorded, and the investigation is ongoing.
Calls for Accountability
According to Bachchan Singh, SP Akola Police, “Akola Police received a complaint of molestation of 6 school girls by Pramod Manohar Sardar, a teacher of the Zilla Parishad School in Kajikhed. Police immediately arrested the accused teacher and recorded the statements of the victim girls. Cases under sections 74 and 75 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and POCSO Act were registered. Further investigation is underway.”
Protests Erupt After Badlapur Abuse Case
Following significant protests against the alleged sexual abuse of two young girls in Badlapur, near Mumbai, this incident has occurred. When parents protested against abuse by blocking trains, it erupted into physical altercations with the police. The matter will be accelerated through a fast-track court, as promised by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde of Maharashtra.
