In a heartbreaking incident in Mumbai’s Worli, a speeding BMW, driven by the 24-year-old son of a senior Shiv Sena leader, hit a scooter this morning, resulting in a woman’s death. Police sources revealed that Mihir Shah, who fled the scene, was intoxicated during the accident.
Senior Leader’s Son Behind the Wheel
Mihir Shah, the son of Rajesh Shah, a deputy leader of the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, was identified as the driver. Both Rajesh Shah and his driver are currently in police custody. According to the investigation, Mihir had been drinking at a bar in Juhu the previous night. On his way home, he asked the driver to take him on a long drive, eventually taking over the wheel himself in Worli, where the tragic accident occurred.
The Fateful Crash
The BMW crashed into a scooter carrying Kaveri Nakva and her husband, Pradik Nakva, residents of Worli’s Koliwada area. The couple, fish-sellers, were returning from Sassoon Dock when the speeding car hit their two-wheeler. The impact threw them into the air, landing them on the car’s bonnet. As the car sped away, Kaveri was run over and later declared dead at the hospital. Pradik suffered minor injuries.
Attempts to Conceal Evidence
The police investigation revealed attempts to hide the car’s association with the Shiv Sena. The BMW’s windshield had a Shiv Sena sticker, which was scratched off, and one of its number plates was removed. However, CCTV footage helped the police identify the vehicle.
Official Response
Maharashtra Chief Minister and Sena Leader Eknath Shinde called the incident “unfortunate” and promised action. “The law will take its own course. Everyone is equal before the law. I have spoken to the police, and strict action will be taken,” he said.
Similar Past Incidents
This incident echoes a similar case in Pune months ago, where a drunk-driving crash involving a minor in a Porsche left two young engineers dead. The teen’s prominent family faced legal action for attempting to destroy evidence.
