Amanatullah Khan, a Member of Legislative Assembly for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), disclosed on Monday that he was going to be arrested by Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials when they showed up at his Okhla, New Delhi, home. This occurs in the midst of continuing enquiries into the money laundering case involving the Delhi Waqf Board.
ED Officials Attempt to Arrest Amanatullah Khan
Amanatullah Khan took to social media platform X to announce the arrival of ED officials at his home, stating, “ED people have just arrived at my house to arrest me.” In a self-recorded video, he expressed frustration over what he described as continuous harassment by the agency for the past two years.
“It is seven in the morning, and the ED has come to arrest me in the name of a search warrant. My mother-in-law, who is battling cancer, is currently at my home. Despite writing to them and responding to each of their notices, they have continued to harass me. Their only goal is to break our party, but we will not bow down or break,” Amanatullah Khan asserted.
AAP Stands by Khan, Alleges Unjust Persecution
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh also voiced his support for Amanatullah Khan, condemning the ED’s actions as baseless and politically motivated. He highlighted that Khan had cooperated with the investigation but was still targeted.
“
Look at the cruelty of ED, @KhanAmanatullah first he joined the ED investigation, then asked for time for further time, his mother in law has cancer, she has undergone an operation, they reached the house early in the morning to raid. There is no evidence against @KhanAmanatullah but both Modi’s dictatorship and ED’s hooliganism continue.,” Singh wrote on X.
Legal Battles and Ongoing Investigation
In April, the Rouse Avenue Court granted Khan bail in relation to the ED’s charge over his purported failure to appear at summons pertaining to the Delhi Waqf Board matter. Amanatullah Khan became an accused instead of a witness after the agency claimed that he had escaped the investigation.
