‘Article 370 ko Agar Unke Pass Wapas Laane Ka Koi Roadmap…,’ Is Engineer Rashid Living in a Fool’s Paradise?

Is Engineer Rashid's Vision for Restoring Article 370 Realistic?

Engineer Rashid

Engineer Rashid: The outspoken Member of Parliament from Baramulla, Engineer Rashid, recently made a daring statement about the political climate in Jammu and Kashmir, specifically about the removal of Article 370. “Masla bada hai 370 ka, agar unke pass wapas laane ka koi roadmap, toh hum unka support karne ko tyaar hai par unke pass koi roadmap nahi hai, unhone saade 5 saal kuch nahi bola,” he said, casting doubt on the integrity of the regional leaders.

Engineer Rashid’s Stand on Article 370

Upon his return to Kashmir, Engineer Rashid made his stance on Article 370 clear. He began by expressing his frustration with regional political leaders, including Omar Abdullah of the National Conference (NC) and Mehbooba Mufti of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who formed the People’s Alliance for the Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) to push for the restoration of Article 370. However, Rashid criticized them, questioning their strategy and sincerity. He pointed out that despite being vocal about restoring the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, they have failed to produce a clear roadmap for how they plan to achieve this goal.

In his statement to the media, Rashid said, “Masla bada hai 370 ka, agar unke pass koi roadmap hai, toh hum unka support karne ko tyaar hai par unke pass koi roadmap nahi hai, unhone saade 5 saal kuch nahi bola” (The issue of Article 370 is big. If they have a roadmap, we are ready to support them, but they have no roadmap; they have said nothing for the past five and a half years).

Rashid’s Criticism of Regional Leaders

Engineer Rashid’s criticism of regional leaders is rooted in what he perceives as their inability to take decisive action on Article 370. Despite the creation of PAGD, a collective of regional parties aimed at restoring the special status, Rashid believes their efforts lack a concrete plan. His frustration was evident when he claimed that his party would not contest elections if the PAGD leaders provided a clear strategy for Article 370’s restoration. However, according to him, such a plan has yet to materialize, leaving Rashid skeptical of their motives and effectiveness.

A Scathing Critique of the BJP’s “Naya Kashmir”

In addition to his criticism of regional leaders, Engineer Rashid delivered a sharp rebuke of the BJP’s “Naya Kashmir” narrative. He accused the ruling party of failing to deliver on their promises of a peaceful and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir after the revocation of Article 370. Rashid’s discontent was clear when he called the “Naya Kashmir” promise a flop, saying, “This Naya Kashmir was to kill, arrest, harass, and humiliate people. Kashmiris don’t like to pelt stones, but that doesn’t mean we will surrender before your power.”
