Arvind Kejriwal: The Supreme Court of India is scheduled to hear Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea against his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and his subsequent remand in a money-laundering case linked to the excise policy on April 15.
A bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta will preside over the hearing
Recently, Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh raised concerns about Kejriwal’s well-being, alleging that he was facing mistreatment while in jail. These allegations surfaced following a report in The Economic Times on April 13.
On April 10, Kejriwal approached the Supreme Court to challenge his arrest by the ED, after the Delhi High Court rejected his plea for relief.
Supreme Court to Hear Arvind Kejriwal’s Plea Against ED Arrest in Money-Laundering Case
In the petition submitted to the apex court, Kejriwal emphasized urgent circumstances surrounding his arrest, particularly during the ongoing election cycle. The plea highlighted concerns about the timing of his arrest, which came after the declaration of the schedule for the general election 2024.
Kejriwal’s petition contends that his arrest was based on contradictory and delayed statements from co-accused, who have now turned approvers. It alleges that the ED’s actions were influenced by vested interests, using legal processes as a tool to suppress political opponents and tarnish their reputation.
The upcoming Supreme Court hearing will likely delve into these issues, addressing the legality and motivations behind Kejriwal’s arrest and the subsequent allegations of mistreatment during his detention.
