The preliminary inquiry into the case of a three-year-old child’s alleged mistreatment by a medical couple in Assam’s Guwahati has revealed some shocking details. According to authorities, the girl’s medical checkup found injuries and burn marks on her private parts in addition to other bruises on other parts of her body.
The child’s private regions were burned with cigarettes
The couple, both of whom were arrested, and their domestic assistance are accused of keeping the youngster in captivity. The authorities claimed the pair had lied when they claimed the youngster was their daughter, despite earlier reports to the contrary. Sunday in Guwahati, Commissioner of Police Diganta Barah spoke to the media and claimed that the three-year-old girl was held captive at the Roma Enclave, where the medical couple was lodging. ‘The little girl was hurt, had burn marks on her privates, and had bruises all over her body. The child’s private regions were burned with cigarettes, it was discovered during a medical examination,’ he said. ‘The accused Dr. Walliul Islam, his wife Dr. Sangeeta Datta, and their housekeeper Lakshmi Nath have all been taken into custody. The three were brought before the chief judicial magistrate’s court in Guwahati on Sunday, where the court sentenced them to five days in police imprisonment, while Lakshmi received seven days in judicial custody,’ the officer continued.

The couple falsely claimed to be the fraternal twins’ biological parents
According to Barah, the doctor couple has been detained under the POCSO Act, which protects children from sexual offences. The three-year-old, her twin brother, and an older sister were the only children in the home, according to the authorities. ‘The couple falsely claimed to be the fraternal twins’ biological parents. In order to determine who these kids genuinely belonged to and how they ended up at the home of the medical couple, the police have now begun their inquiry,’ according to Barah. Currently, the twins are receiving medical treatment. The horrifying incident came to light as a result of a social media post by child rights activist Miguel Das Queah, who asked the police for assistance in rescuing the youngster. The toddler would frequently be restrained by the parents for several hours on the terrace of their apartment in the sweltering summer sun, according to Miguel’s article. The Paltan Bazar police took action after receiving a complaint from the doctor couple’s neighbour in response to Miguel’s article.
