These days heavy rains are lashing the state of Northeast India, Assam. In 10 districts of the state, about 1.2 lakh people are facing the devastation of floods. According to the daily flood report by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), over 1,19,800 people have been affected by the floods in Baksa, Barpeta, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Nalbari, Sonitpur and Udalguri districts.
Nalbari district most affected by flood
According to the reports, Nalbari district is the most affected by the flood. Around 45,000 people are affected here, followed by Baksa with over 26,500 and Lakhimpur with over 25,000. Till Tuesday, over 34,000 people were affected by the floods in nine districts. To help the flood-affected people, the administration is running 14 relief camps in five districts, where 2,091 people have taken shelter and 17 relief distribution centers are running in five districts.
Only water is visible all around in Nalbari. To save their animals, people are taking them out of the water and taking them to safer places. At the same time, many people’s houses have been damaged in this flood. Astrologer Rajbongshi of Moiraranga village of Nalbari said that all the household items have been damaged due to the flood. He told that he could not get anything out of his house.
10,591.85 hectare crop destroyed
Army, paramilitary forces, NDRF, SDRF, Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES), civil administration, NGOs and local people have so far rescued 1,280 people from the flood-affected areas. About 750 villages have been submerged due to floods. At the same time, 10,591.85 hectare crop has been destroyed.
