Assam Floods: The flood situation in Assam has significantly deteriorated with around 5 lakh people displaced due to the rising water levels in Brahmaputra and its tributaries. One person has been reported to have died because of the floods in Tamulpur of Udalguri district. The waters of Brahmaputra and other channels are flowing above danger mark as situation in 12 districts of Assam remain in continuous peril. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow alert for Friday with prediction of heavy rainfall over the next few days also put in place. The department has asked people to remain on watch and remain updated regarding flood and rainfall conditions.
Relief work put in place
The administration has been operating a total of 83 relief camps across 7 districts where 14,035 people have taken shelter. Other than relief camps 79 relief distribution centers are also functional in the flooded regions. According to PTI, units of NDRF, SDRF, Paramilitary forces, Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) , civil administration as well as NGOs and local populace are engaged in relief and rescue operations. In last 24 hours 1,265 quintals of rice, dal, salt and 5,269.80 liters of mustard oil has been distributed to the flood victims.

Erosion, landslides and Rising water level
As per a report by Central Water Commission (CWC), Bhramaputra is flowing above danger levels at Jorhat and Dhubri. The river Manas, Puthimari and Paglagiya have also been reported to be flowing above dangerous marks at various places. Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has stated that incidents of erosion have been coming from Dhubri, Bongaigaon, South Salmara, Darrang, Nalbari, Sonitpur, Udalguri, Morigaon,and Lakhimpur. In Bongaigaon and Dima heavy rainfall has led to landslides in some areas. Many places in Baksa, Barpeta ,Bongaigaon, Chirang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Nalbari, Sonitpur and Udalguri has seen severe damaging of bridges, embarkments, roads and other infrastructure.
