Assembly Election 2023: Today witnessed a crucial electoral faceoff between the BJP and Congress in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The second phase of polling in Chhattisgarh featured 958 candidates vying for 70 assembly seats across 19 districts, while in Madhya Pradesh, over 2,000 candidates contested for 230 seats. As of 5 pm, Madhya Pradesh recorded a 71.11% voter turnout, and Chhattisgarh marked 67.34%.

Prominent political leaders cast their vote:

Prominent political figures, including Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, former Chief Minister Kamal Nath, Union Minister Prahlad Singh Patel, and state Home Minister Narottam Mishra, exercised their voting rights. Incidents of violence, including stone pelting and firing, were reported in Morena district, resulting in injuries. Heavy security measures were implemented in response.

Kamal Nath expressed confidence:

Kamal Nath, after casting his vote, expressed confidence that the electorate, discontented with issues like corruption, unemployment, and agricultural challenges, would make informed choices. In Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Deputy TS Singh Deo, and state BJP chief Arun Sao were among those who cast their votes. Singh Deo drew a parallel between Baghel and cricketer Virat Kohli, alluding to their prolonged rivalry for the Chief Minister’s position in an exclusive interview with India Today.
