Bajrang Dal: As the Nuh violence extended to other areas of Haryana, killing six people and injuring many more, some areas of the state remained tense for a third day. The first incident of sectarian violence occurred during a Hindu religious procession in Nuh district as a result of rumours that the wanted cow vigilante Monu Maneser, a key suspect in the Bhiwani killings, would also be present. The killing of two cousins, Junaid and Nasir, whose burned remains were discovered inside a four-wheeler in Haryana’s Bhiwani district in February, is connected to the Bhiwani case. Workers from the Bajrang Dal demonstrate against Nuh violence in Delhi’s Ghonda Chowk; police barricades are put place to keep the throng in check. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has called for a demonstration in response to the recent bloody confrontations in Nuh, Haryana.
Prohibitory Orders Imposed, Peace Committee Meetings Held
As a result of the turn of events, the state of Haryana has implemented prohibitory orders under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure in several areas of the state. While the leaders have made a call for peace, peace committee meetings have also been organised to reduce tension. Nishant Kumar Yadav, the deputy commissioner (DC) for Gurugram, issued an order prohibiting the sale of loose petrol and diesel at all petrol stations, “except in emergency situations”.
Opposition Criticizes Haryana Government’s Handling of Violence
Anil Vij, the home minister, called the violence a “well-planned” conspiracy and ordered an investigation on Tuesday while the opposition leaders criticised the Manohar Lal Khattar administration for failing to maintain law and order in the state. At least 40 complaints have been filed by the police against those involved in the incident, and more than 100 men have been held for questioning.
