Apple India: According to The Times of India, after being sued, Apple India and its authorised service centre in Indiranagar were ordered by Bengaluru‘s municipal consumer court to give their customer compensation in the amount of Rs. 1 lakh. The amount of the award covers both the cost of the iPhone and the hardship Apple India caused him.
Customer’s iPhone 13 faced battery and speaker issues within warranty period
Awez Khan purchased an iPhone 13 in October 2021 that had a one-year warranty. Khan brought his brand-new phone to the iPlanet Care Centre in Indiranagar when the battery and speaker stopped functioning correctly. After a few days, the service centre personnel called Khan to let him know that his phone had been fixed and requested him to pick it up from the shop. The battery and audio issues were still there when Khan arrived at the store and checked his phone. He explained the situation to the personnel and requested that they properly fix the phone.
Service center claims glue in iPhone, refuses warranty, customer sues Apple
The service centre workers got in touch with him two weeks later and informed him that they had found what appeared to be glue within the phone. They emphasised that the issue is not covered by the warranty and that he must pay extra to get it rectified. Khan reportedly sent a letter to Apple India with his complaint, but the tech giant apparently did not respond. He then made the decision to sue Apple India and served legal papers on them. He reported unfair business practises to Shantinagar’s Bengaluru Urban District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.
Apple India ordered to pay compensation of ₹1 lakh after customer sues
Apple India’s defence attorney asserted that the allegation is devoid of facts and labelled the damage as “accidental.” The corporation was nonetheless ordered by the court to pay 79,999 as compensation plus an additional ₹20,000 for the difficulty the consumer experienced.
