Bihar Bridge Collapses: On Monday, a section of a bridge across the Bakra River fell near Araria, Bihar. At a cost of Rs 12 crores, work on the Padariya bridge, which will link the Kursakatta and Sikhti blocks of Araria, has restarted, according to news agency IANS.
Increasing Trend of Bridge Collapses in Bihar
Srinivas BV, National President of the Youth Congress, attack the JD(U)-BJP coalition government in Bihar. He remarked, “The bridge of the double engine government was washed away in water even before its inauguration… the visuals are from Araria in Bihar.”
There is a concerning trend of bridge collapses in Bihar that this occurrence follows. One person died and nine others were injured when a bridge that was still under construction between Bheja and Bakaur partially collapsed in March of this year.
The estimated cost of this bridge, which was intended to link the districts of Bhagalpur and Khagaria, exceeded Rs 1,700 crore. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar placed the project’s foundation stone in February 2014; it was once scheduled for completion in 2019.
Youth Congress President Criticizes JD(U)-BJP Coalition
The still-under-construction Aguwani-Sultanganj bridge in the Bhagalpur district collapsed a second time back in June 2022. Another event occurred in December 2022 when a portion of a bridge that was still under construction in the Begusarai district collapsed into the Burhi Gandak river. After fractures appeared, the bridge was briefly closed while officials investigated the cause of the collapse.
According to the locals, cheap materials were used to build the bridge. The administration and the construction crew arrived on the scene following the fall. The rural works department of the district constructed the bridge. In Bihar, bridge collapses have happened before. A bridge over the Ganga river at Sultanganj collapsed in 2023. In March 2024, a worker in Supaul town lost his life when another bridge across the Kosi River collapsed.
