In a crucial move, the Bihar Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has given a nod to a vital proposal seeking special state status for Bihar. This proposal underscores the state government’s persistent efforts to secure tailored development initiatives and accelerated progress. Nitish Kumar, who has championed the cause of special status since 2010, reiterated the significance of this designation for Bihar’s comprehensive growth.
Dearness Allowance Hike for State Employees
Simultaneously, the cabinet has approved a substantial increase in dearness allowance (DA) for government employees covered under the 7th pay scale. The DA, elevated from 42% to 46%, will be effective from July 1, 2023. This enhancement is anticipated to benefit around 11 lakh government employees and pensioners in the state. The timely integration of this hike into December salaries ensures that employees can promptly access the increased benefits and corresponding arrears.
Persisting Demand for Special Status
Nitish Kumar, in his social media communication, reiterated the state government’s continuous efforts to secure special status for Bihar. He highlighted the prolonged demand, dating back to 2010, and the formation of the Raghuram Rajan Committee by the Central Government in response to this request. Despite these efforts, the plea for special status has faced delays, prompting the Bihar government to reiterate its appeal for the unique designation.
A Strategic Step for Bihar’s Prosperity
The dual initiative of advocating for special state status and fortifying employee welfare through the DA hike signifies a strategic step by the Bihar government toward fostering the state’s prosperity. By addressing both developmental and employee-centric aspects, the government aims to bolster Bihar’s overall growth and well-being.
