Bihar Rainfall: Heavy rainfall and waterlogging on Friday has led to emergence of flood like situations in many low-lying areas of the state. In Bihar districts of Purnea, Katihar, Saharsa, Jamui, Banka, Madhepura and Araria saw heavy water accumulation after many hours of continuous downpouring.
The weather department has issued thunderstorms and rainfall alert for coming few days.
Rainfall in numbers
According to information relayed by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Patna received 53.45 mm in span of 24 hours till Friday morning. Raniganj has recorded 90.8 mm, Purnea received 77.5 mm of rainfall while Madhepura recorded 75 mm of rainfall.
In Saharsa 68.8 mm precipitation was recorded while it stood at 67.3 mm in Jamui. Purnea received 67 mm of showers and Katihar recorded 64.5 mm of rainfall. The district of Banka received 56 mm of rainfall.
Alert has been issued
The weather department has issued alert for light to moderate thunderstorms along with heavy rainfall in districts of Patna, Buxar, Gaya, Bhojpur, Rohtas, Arwal, Vaishali, Saran, Muzaffarpur, Jamui, Nalanda and Nawada. The Patna Municipla coroporation has claimed accumulated rainwater was drained in short time and waterlogging was dealt with.
Officials have stated that preparations are underway to combat any situation in the low lying regions of state.
