Mamata Banerjee: The West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was criticised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday after a video showed police ‘dragging’ the body of a rape victim. In the footage, police and paramilitary units are seen removing the body from the irate crowd while some of them are seen throwing rocks at the officers. Amit Malviya, a leader in the BJP, shared the video on Twitter and noted that “such haste is often seen when the purpose is to eliminate or dilute evidence and cover up the crime.”
Suvendu Adhikari slams the opposition
Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, claimed that there was lawlessness in the region and blamed the state police for the crime. The BJP spokesman further said that the police were preoccupied with preparing security for the Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s anticipated visit to the district next month.

The young girl was allegedly raped and killed by unidentified criminals at Kaliaganj in the state’s Uttar Dinajpur district, according to Bengal police. On Friday morning, the villagers discovered the body floating in a canal. The adolescent girl vanished on Thursday night. The victim, who lives in Gangua village, vanished after attending school. She was untraceable despite the police and villagers doing a thorough search. Her family members reported her as missing.
