Sagar Sahu, the vice president of Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district, was killed by alleged Maoists in the Bastar region. This is the second incident where a BJP leader has been killed in the Bastar region by people who are thought to be Maoist sympathisers that has come to light.

Sahu was fatally shot in front of his family members at his Chottenagar village home around 9 p.m. by two unidentified assailants who then fled the scene. Sahu was taken to a nearby hospital in Chhotenagar and afterwards sent to the Narayanpur district, where he passed away from his wounds.
When the police started their inquiry, they disclosed that they had not discovered any Maoist literature or documents that claimed responsibility for the deaths. Police believe that the Maoists may be responsible for the deaths, nevertheless.
Inspector General of Police, Bastar range said,
“Prima facie the incident seems to be the handiwork of a small action team of Maoists but we are investigating the killing from all angles. A combing operation has been launched in a nearby forest,”

Spate of Killings of BJP leaders in Chhattisgarh
In the Awapalli police station area’s Paikram vilage on January 2, a 40-year-old BJP politician from Bastar’s Bijapur district was killed by suspected Maoists when he was on his way to a wedding.
Neelkanth Kakem, the leader and the BJP’s president of Awapalli Mandal, was fatally hacked during the marriage ceremony in front of his family.
A BJP leader and former sarpanch of the Usoor area was murdered in Bijapur about a month ago by unidentified assailants. Police haven’t yet established that the murder was the work of Maoists, but the suspects are still at large.
