The BJP has fielded Shikha Rai and Soni Panday as candidates for mayor and deputy mayor, respectively. The two candidates will file their nominations later today. Voting for the mayoral polls for Delhi MCD will take place on April 26.
While Shikha Rai is the councilor from the Greater Kailash-1 wards, Soni Pandey represents northeast Delhi’s Sonia Vihar ward.
This comes hours after a top BJp leader claimed the party was unlikely to contest in the polls as there was a “clear mandate” in the favour of AAP.

The Aam Admi Party (AAP) has fielded incumbent Shelly Oberoi and Aaley Mohammad Iqbal as their mayoral and deputy mayoral candidates, respectively, for a second term in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Shelly and Iqbal had filed their nominations on Monday.
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said that AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal has decided that the party’s candidates will be repeated.
“They will once again win the elections with a massive mandate. They have performed well in the limited time they had and served the people of Delhi well. Based on their performance, we have decided to repeat them,” Singh said.
