Madhya Pradesh: The ruling BJP and the Congress are making a big effort to win over female votes in Madhya Pradesh, which is headed for elections, by promising them Rs 1,000 per month as opposed to Rs 1,500 per month and an LPG cylinder for Rs 500.
Political Parties Ramp Up Promises of Cash Dole and Farmer Aid in Madhya Pradesh Elections
Senior Congressman Kamal Nath made the cash dole promise last month because the party had found success in Karnataka using this strategy. Shivraj Chouhan, the chief minister, soon decided to expedite the “freebies” path and committed to transferring Rs 1,000 per month, starting on Saturday, to the bank accounts of approximately 1.25 crore underprivileged women. Along with that, he will also deposit Rs 2,000 as a biannual installment for the CM Kisan Kalyan Yojana, which was initiated last year, into the bank accounts of 80 lakh farmers in the state. Additionally, the Centre sends farmers three payments of Rs 2,000 each each year as part of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi programme.

‘Ladli Behna Yojana’ Aims to Empower Women in Madhya Pradesh with Monthly Aid and Affordable LPG Cylinders
Chouhan announced the ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’ in January, and the state government is now expected to spend an astounding Rs 12,500 crore year as a result. Registrations were then conducted since, according to the administration, only 23% of women in the state were employed, compared to 58% of men. According to the government, this had an impact on women’s ability to support themselves, thus after the registration process was complete, they would receive aid in the amount of Rs 1,000 per month. While the BJP chose not to offer a cash handout to women, the Congress’ election victory in Karnataka was significantly influenced by its promise to provide Rs 2,000 per month to women. Soon after those elections, Nath declared that if his party won the future elections, it would provide women with Rs 1,500 per month in addition to an LPG cylinder at a discounted price of Rs 500, which currently costs upwards of Rs 1,000.
