New Delhi: Political rumours are widespread regarding the potential removal of two ministers from the state and the introduction of one or two to make up and preserve the regional balance, amid talk of a reshuffle of the Union cabinet anytime before the monsoon session of the Parliament commencing July 20. Since the most recent cabinet shake-up in 2021, when several notable personalities were removed, there have been persistent rumours that Dharmendra Pradhan will be removed from the council of ministers and given significant organisation authority.
Pradhan’s Potential Role in Uttar Pradesh BJP
According to sources acquainted with the situation, Pradhan might be appointed head of the BJP‘s Uttar Pradesh branch if he is stripped of his ministerial duties. The destiny of the upcoming national administration will be determined by Uttar Pradesh, a key state. Being in charge of the state prior to the 2019 general and 2022 Assembly elections has given Pradhan a thorough understanding of the region and its political climate. Despite rumours that Pradhan would succeed incumbent JP Nadda as party leader, sources indicated it is unlikely to happen before the next general elections, which are less than a year away. Pradhan appears to have zeroed in on the Dhenkanal Parliamentary constituency, which he has been frequenting for the past few years, in light of the party’s request that all Union ministers who have gone through the Rajya Sabha route run in the 2024 elections.
Jual Oram and Aparajita Sarangi Among Contenders
“There is also a strong possibility of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw losing the portfolio after the recent train tragedy at Bahanaga Bazaar in Balasore district that claimed the lives of 293 passengers. It is still a matter of conjecture if he will be dropped from the cabinet or just stripped of the railway portfolio,” sources in the party said. Only one state representative can replace Pradhan, who technically represents Madhya Pradesh in the Upper House, if Vaishnaw, who represents Odisha in the Rajya Sabha, remains in the cabinet even without the railway portfolio. In the case of a reorganisation, there are two names from the state that are being considered for induction. Jual Oram, a former minister and MP for Sundargarh, has a good chance of winning because western Odisha, which has sent five MPs to the Lok Sabha, is still without a representative. As some of the current MPs are expected to be replaced by fresh candidates in the next elections, the decision of Oram has more weight. Aparajita Sarangi, a Lok Sabha member from Bhubanewar, is also in the running, but it all relies on the number of openings in the cabinet and the ministers who will be replaced. The Prime Minister is one of a maximum of 81 ministers that the Central government may have. Only three vacancies remain in the government, which already has 78 ministers.
