CM Arvind Kejriwal

CM Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, will not be present before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) today to answer questions about the liquor policy case. Together with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, he will go on a road show at Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh, today. Manish Sisodia, a former deputy chief minister of Delhi, and Sanjay Singh, a prominent party figure, have previously been detained in connection with the investigation.

Heightened Security as Delhi CM’s Visit Looms

In anticipation of the chief minister of Delhi’s much-awaited visit, additional police officers have been stationed outside the Enforcement Directorate office in Delhi. The Delhi excise policy for 2021–2022 has been cancelled, but the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are still looking into it. The AAP vehemently refutes claims that the programme benefitted certain liquor retailers. As to a report by the chief secretary of the Delhi government, in July of last year, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena demanded that the CBI investigate the anomalies.

Opposition Alleges Central Agency Abuse Ahead of Elections

Opposition leaders have joined the chorus accusing the saffron party of abusing central agencies against opposition parties ahead of the elections, while the Centre has claimed his involvement in the irregularities related to the policies. The AAP, on the other hand, has maintained that this is all part of the BJP‘s plot to ‘finish’ the party.

Raghav Chadha Claims Opposition Figures Targeted by Investigative Authorities

Party chairman Raghav Chadha asserted during a press conference that since 2014, opposition figures had been the target of 95% of charges filed by the investigative authorities. “Now after the formation of the INDIA alliance, the BJP is rattled. We have learnt from sources that they have hatched a plan to target top leaders from the INDIA alliance. The first arrest in this plan will be of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal,” he said.

Chadha Claims BJP’s Electoral Strategy

Chadha added, “The BJP knows it is losing all the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi. It is planning to get Kejriwal arrested so that AAP is not able to contest the polls.” Along with Kejriwal, the AAP chief released a list of people the investigation authorities might look into. He alleged, “After Kejriwal, they will arrest Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and then Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Tejashwi Yadav and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee. After these leaders, they will target Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin and then top leaders of the Shiv Sena and the NCP in Maharashtra.”
