CM Arvind Kejriwal: Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, introduced a resolution of confidence in the assembly on Friday, stating that it was necessary to demonstrate to the populace that the House has faith in the council of ministers. The application was submitted in relation to a case brought by the Enforcement Directorate over the Delhi Chief Minister’s persistent disregard for the agency’s summons, and was made the day before Kejriwal was scheduled to appear before the Rouse Avenue court.
ED Summons Escalation
Kejriwal received a sixth summons from ED on February 14; it was supposed to be delivered to him on February 19. After Kejriwal failed to show up on February 2, the agency moved the court.
Following that, on February 17, the Rouse Avenue court issued a summons for Kejriwal’s personal appearance, noting that the AAP national convener was “legally bound” to cooperate with the ED inquiry.
Confidence Motion Discussion on Saturday
The proposal will be discussed in the House on Saturday, according to Speaker Ram Niwas Goel. On the other hand, opposition leader Ramvir Singh Bidhuri claimed that the Saturday business was not included in the previously released timetable.
“A discussion on the confidence motion has been scheduled on Saturday when the Rouse Avenue court has summoned Kejriwal (on February 17) over skipping ED summons in liquor scam. The sitting of the House was not fixed for February 17 according to the earlier schedule. The CM has got a discussion on confidence motion scheduled on Saturday so that he can use this as an excuse to avoid appearance before the court,” Bidhuri said.
Accusations of BJP’s Attempted MLA Poaching
Kejriwal reiterated his accusation that the Bharatiya Janata Party was attempting to steal Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs in order to overthrow his administration on Friday while introducing the trust vote in the House.
Kejriwal said, “Some days ago, two MLAs (AAP) separately came to me and told me the same thing. They said that the BJP leaders had come to them and inform that CM Arvind Kejriwal will be arrested soon; they said that they have already contacted 21 AAP MLAs and (claimed that) they are ready to leave AAP; they are trying to contact others (AAP MLAs) as well. They said they will give ₹25 crore to each of them, and asked them to join the BJP.”
He aaded “They promised that the BJP will field them in election (assembly) on BJP ticket. And if you want anything else, let us know. The MLAs told me that they refused the offer. Then we contacted our MLAs and found that the BJP had contacted seven MLAs. They have attempted to conduct one more Operation Lotus. But all 21 MLAs have refused according to what we have learned”
Liquor Scam Controversy
The Delhi chief minister stated, In reference to the Delhi excise policy issue, in which ED has been sending him summonses, “The so-called liquor scam is not a liquor scam. They do not want to conduct any investigation. We see that in other states they are toppling one after another government on the basis of false cases, their intention is to arrest.. they have arrested several AAP leaders… and topple the Delhi government. They know that they cannot win the assembly election in Delhi, so they want to topple the government and form their own government. Due to God grace and people’s faith, their attempts could not fructify.”
Kejriwal’s Explosive Claim of ₹25 Crore Offers
The AAP head said on January 27 that the BJP had made seven AAP MLAs offers of ₹25 crore apiece in an effort to overthrow his government. The BJP responded sharply, calling the allegation “absurd and baseless”. Delhi BJP chairman Virendra Sachdeva, opposition leader in the Delhi assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, and MP for North East Delhi Manoj Tiwari filed a complaint with Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora on January 30th, demanding a probe into the statements made by the chief minister.
A crime branch team visited the CM’s home on February 3 to deliver a notice on the MLA’s alleged poaching, which set off a political drama and slugfest. In the 70-member Delhi assembly, the BJP has just eight MLAs, while the AAP has 62. Despite having a resounding majority in the House, Bidhuri claimed that Kejriwal’s need to move a resolution of confidence in the assembly “shows that the CM has lost confidence.”
Money Laundering Inquiry Surrounds Delhi Chief Minister
In relation to an alleged money laundering inquiry connected to current investigations into the excise policy issue, the ED want to speak with the chief minister of Delhi. Kejriwal has ignored ED summonses, claiming they are unlawful and driven by politics.
As the assembly’s budget session got underway on Thursday, environment minister Gopal Rai submitted a resolution of gratitude regarding LG’s speech, which was presented in the House. Speaking on the motion, AAP MLAs emphasised the initiatives the Delhi government has taken in the areas of social security, health, education, and other fields.
BJP’s Obstruction Tactics
“The central government of BJP tried its best to stop all the work of Delhi by bringing an ordinance to nullify the Supreme Court judgement and later made an Act to paralyze the Delhi government, and used federal agencies to stop the Delhi government’s work, even despite all these obstacles we are proud that the Delhi government is setting records of development every day despite obstacles,” Rai said.
The LG provided a summary of the key initiatives, policies, and work of the AAP government in the areas of infrastructure, social welfare, health, transportation, and education. The LG opens the assembly’s first meeting of the year by reading the address prepared by the elected government, as is customary in parliament.
