CM Bhagwant Mann: In honour of Labor Day, the Punjab government has proclaimed a gazetted holiday for Monday, 1 May. All government offices, boards/corporations, and educational institutions in the state of Punjab will be closed today in observance of Labor Day, per the directives given by Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Janjua.
Tamil Nadu CM sent wishes to the workforce
On the eve of Labor Day, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, M. K. Stalin, as well as the leaders of other political parties in the state, including the AIADMK, sent wishes to the workforce. Stalin wished the laborers a good day and remarked that his party had always supported the workforce. ‘while we were in the government, we implemented welfare programmes for the labor community, and while we were in opposition in the assembly, we raised concerns to protect the rights of the labor force,’ he stated. Stalin outlined some of the policies put in place by the DMK government for the welfare of the workforce, such as a paid holiday on May Day and a 20% bonus for workers, among other things.

Why International Labor Day Celebrated
To honour the hardships and sacrifices made by the labor movement, Labor Day is honoured. It’s also referred to as May Day. More than 80 nations observe International Labor Day, also known as Workers Day, including China, Cuba, and India. The USA in the 19th century is where Labour Day first appeared. Workers in America staged a national walkout on May 1st, 1886, calling for an eight-hour workday. The Haymarket affair in Chicago, US, brought an end to the protest.
