Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Honors Bhagat Puran Singh’s Humanitarian Legacy

Writing on the Twitter Government of Punjab said, “Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, pays homage to the founder of Pingalwara Bhagat Puran Singh Ji on his 31st death anniversary. Bhagat Puran Singh ji dedicated his entire life to the service of humanity.”

The Visionary Humanitarian and Environmentalist of Pingalwara

Bhagat Puran Singh was an Indian author, environmentalist, and philanthropist. He made the decision to devote his life to helping others when he was young, and in 1947 he founded Pingalwara, a home for the sick and disadvantaged in Amritsar. He advocated for environmental causes and wrote numerous books on them, including ones regarding soil erosion and pollution. He is most likely known for the Pingalwara home in Amritsar, India, which he built and which, long after his passing, is still caring for society’s outcasts, including the sick, disabled, and abandoned sad people. Puran Singh made the decision to devote his life to the “selfless service of humanity” as a young man based on his Sikh values. In 1947, Puran Singh established Pingalwara with a small number of patients—the abandoned and rejected of Amritsar’s streets. Before such concepts gained popularity, Bhagat Puran Singh, a proponent of what is now known as the “Green Revolution,” was raising awareness about the issues of increasing soil erosion and environmental pollution.
