Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde took part in the ‘Savarkar Gaurav Yatra’ on Sunday in Thane. Hundreds of people gathered to attend the Yatra as they honoured the valour of late Hindutva ideologue V D Savarkar. With this Yatra, the Shinde sena aims to spread awareness among people and mark their protest against those who are speaking against the freedom fighter. This comes few days after Rahul Gandhi’s “I’m not Savarkar” comment.
The BJP march comes to oppose routine attacks on him by the the Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi. It will cover all three assembly seats in the city and will end at Ahilyabhai Holkar Chowk.
The Yatra participants were seen wearing saffron caps with Mi Savarkar written on them along with other messages. They were also seen paying floral tributes to Savarkar at the Ram Ganesh Gadkari Rangayatan auditorium in Thane city where the Yatra commenced.
The yatra was attended by numerous local leaders of the ruling coalition, including BJP leader Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, Thane MLA Sanjay Kelkar, Thane BJP chairman and MLC Niranjan Davkhare, former mayor Naresh Mhaske, Shiv Sena Legislator Pratap Sarnaik, and many others.
Uddhav Thackeray leads MVA rally
The MVA rally also took place at Marathwada Sanskrutik Mandal ground led by Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, senior Nationalist Congress Party leader Ajit Pawar and Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Ambadas Danve in a video released on Twitter said his party workers to assemble for the rally calmly and peacefully without causing any ruckus for the localites.
Eknath Shinde targets Shiv Sena Uddhav Thackeray
Last week, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde launched a scathing attack at Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray over Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on Veer Savarkar. He said those harping on Hindutva didn’t have the guts to say anything to Gandhi over his Savarkar comments.
BJP state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule also attacked Thackery daring him to cut all ties with Congress. “You approached Congress for becoming a chief minister. If you leave Congress now, entire Maharashtra will congratulate you along with me. Show some qualities being a Thackeray. Do not just make speeches In public rallies,” he said.
