Congress, BSP, and SP suffer major defeats in Ghaziabad municipal corporation polls, BJP Says ‘Results of the Ghaziabad municipal election met our expectations’

UP Municipal Election 2023

UP Municipal Election 2023: In the recently announced election results on Saturday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) defeated the opposition parties by a nearly complete margin, winning the position of mayor and 66 out of 100 councillor seats in the House of the Ghaziabad municipal corporation, while winning 14 additional seats. Sunita Dayal, who serves as the party’s vice-chairperson in Uttar Pradesh, won the mayor’s position by a margin of 287,656 votes, the largest margin of victory for any candidate in the state, according to party officials.

Independent Candidates Secure 14 Seats in Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation Elections

Independent candidates got 14 council seats, while the opposition parties only received 20 seats, despite the BJP winning 66 seats. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won three of the 20 seats, while the Apni Jantantrik Party (AJP) and the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) each got two. Major political parties like the Congress only managed to win three seats, while the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Samajwadi Party (SP) only managed to win five. The BJP won 58 council seats in 2017, while independent candidates won 10 seats in the corporation. “Our victory margin in the Ghaziabad mayoral election was the largest of any corporation in Uttar Pradesh, and we also won 66 seats—eight more than in the 2017 polls. We calculated that the firm had 65 to 70 seats. If some dissenters hadn’t been present, some of our seats might have been filled. But we drove them out. We have to employ both a firm and gentle strategy. It’s possible that we were unable to adequately evaluate the candidate in some of the races we lost. This occurs,” BJP regional president for western UP Satendra Shishodia remarked.

BSP claims BJP strong only in metropolitan areas

“Our party’s candidate wasn’t even in the running, but we fought hard and finished second in the mayoral race. The outcome will be evaluated, but it could have been better. Our organisation and our percentage of the vote have not changed. Although we may have fewer council members in the corporation, we now have more members in other local organisations. The BSP’s district president, Virendra Jatav, claimed that the BJP appears to be strong only in metropolitan areas where voters do not cast ballots in support of Yogi and Modi. In the meantime, BJP office holders claimed that they do not worry about losing or receiving less votes in the elections of 2024. The BJP removed 28 opposing party officials from various wards two days before the election on the grounds that they were either running against BJP candidates or endorsing the rival candidates. The expulsions were for a six-year period. According to election result records, many of these ran against the BJP and cost the party at least six seats.
