In a startling revelation by sources within the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the BMW car confiscated from Hemant Soren’s residence in Delhi isn’t linked to him. Rather, it’s associated with a Rajya Sabha MP from the Congress, who made headlines last year due to a significant cash seizure at his premises.
The Ownership Puzzle Unveiled
The car in question is registered under the ownership of a firm belonging to Dhiraj Prasad Sahu, the Congress’s Rajya Sabha MP from Jharkhand. Last December, Income Tax authorities conducted raids on premises linked to Mr. Sahu, uncovering a staggering ₹ 351 crore in cash. The images of tax officials sorting through the enormous sum made waves across television screens, leading the BJP to launch criticisms against the Congress.
The Cash Saga Unfolds
Despite the uproar, the Opposition party distanced itself from the cash discovery, emphasizing no affiliation with it. Mr. Sahu clarified that the money was linked to his liquor business firm and bore no connection to the Congress. The process of tallying the cash extended over 10 days, with 40 currency counting machines deployed for the colossal task.
The Summons and Its Implications
In light of recent developments, the ED has summoned the Congress MP for interrogation regarding the BMW found at Mr. Soren’s residence. Mr. Soren, arrested the previous week, faces scrutiny over an alleged racket involving illicit land ownership changes orchestrated by mafia elements in Jharkhand. His resignation as Jharkhand Chief Minister shortly before the arrest underscores the gravity of the situation. Despite refuting the allegations and accusing the BJP of manipulating investigative agencies for political gains, Mr. Soren’s predicament remains precarious.
The Discovery at Mr. Soren’s Residence
During the raid at Mr. Soren’s Delhi abode on January 29, ED officials stumbled upon the blue SUV bearing a Haryana license plate, adding another layer of complexity to the unfolding saga.
