Congress promise: After its recent victory in Karnataka, Congress has learnt the art of wooing voters. Just like it did in the southern state, the party is offering sops now in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh too.
It has promised to bring back the Old Pension Scheme in Madhya Pradesh if elected to power. But that’s not all. It has also promised gas cylinder for Rs 500, farm loan waiver and no electricity charges for 100 units.
Last year the party Himachal Pradesh poll on the same agenda. The elections in Madhya Pradesh are still six months away, but the Congress has already called a meeting to discuss its strategy for the upcoming polls in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
Madhya Pradesh sops
Determined to secure the winning streak that it created in Karnataka, Congress has announced quite similar promises it made in there for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly election.
It has promised benefits for households, women, senior citizens and farmers.
The party has promised to supply cooking gas cylinders at half of its market price, for Rs 500.Besides, it announced to give Rs 1500 as monthly allowance to women in the state. Also, it promised to slash the electricity rates by 50 per cent up to 200 units if voted to power. Up to 100 units will be free of cost.
There is more. It promised to implement the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) as it has done in Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan.
“Have fulfilled in Karnataka, will fulfil in Madhya Pradesh,” the party said while posting the promises on its social media handle.
Promises in Karnataka
When Karnataka went to polls, Congress manifesto reiterated five guarantees — Gruha Jyothi, Gruha Lakshmi, Anna Bhagya, Yuva Nidhi and Shakti.
Under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, the party vowed to give each woman head of the family Rs 2,000. It promised to consider extension of the OPS for pensionable government employees who joined service since 2006. Besides, it promised 200 units free electricity and 10 kg of free rice monthly for the underprivileged. It also said to increase the subsidy of milk to farmers from Rs 5 to 7.
