Bhasma Arti: On the occasion of the sixth ‘Shravan Somvar,’ a sizable crowd of devotees flocked to Madhya Pradesh‘s Ujjain district’s Mahakaleshwar temple to pray. The devotees began lining up early in the morning to seek Lord Shiva’s blessings at the temple, and they also took part in a unique ‘Bhasma Aarti’ of Baba Mahakal performed here on this occasion. Offering of ashes is known as “bhasma aarti” in this place. Between 3:30 and 5:30 in the morning, during the “Brahma Muhurta,” it is performed.
Preparations Leading to Mahakaleshwar Temple’s Bhasma Aart
The holy bath of Baba Mahakal with water and the Panchamrit Mahabhishek, in which the Lord was anointed with milk, curd, ghee, honey, and fruit juices, were performed prior to the Bhasma Aarti, according to the temple’s priest Gaurav Sharma. After that, Baba Mahakal was clothed and decked with sandalwood and bhang. Following that, Bhasma Aarti was done to the sounds of conch shell blowing and drumming. The fifth month of the Hindu lunar calendar, “Sawan,” also called “Shravan,” is regarded as one of the holiest months. During this season, every Monday is regarded as a very auspicious day to fast and ask Lord Shiva’s blessings.
Significance of Worshipping Lord Shiva in Shravan
Shravan is regarded as Lord Shiva’s favoured month in terms of religious doctrine. People who worship Lord Shiva during this time are said to have immediate respite from their problems. Sawan will continue 59 days this year, from July 4 to August 31. Additionally, it is customary to ride Baba Mahakal’s sawari on Mondays throughout the month of Shravan-Bhado. Thus, Baba Mahakal’s ride will likewise be removed today. It is a common belief that Baba Mahakal tours the city to assess the state of the populace. The devotees count themselves fortunate to catch a glimpse of Mahakal after spending hours waiting on the side of the road to observe the ride.
